F*ck Off, Big Nose!

Most of the time I tend to distance myself from disabled people, not because they make me feel sick or anything like that! It’s just that I can’t be doing with moaning f*ckwits who are only happy when they are complaining about something.

Obviously it’s not only the none normals that moan and think every thing must be personal.

“You wont let me in because I’m in a wheelchair” – No it’s because we have steps you idiot!

“It’s because i’m black isn’t it?” – No, it’s because you’re a cock!

“If I was thin i’d get the job” – No you wouldn’t because you’re thick!

“Since 911 people think I’m a terrorist that’s why you chose him for the part” – No it because there were no 6ft Muslim Midgets in Snow White you twat!

So yes people do whinge for the sake of it and it really does get on my nipples, but some times it is personal. The world is full of racists, bigots, homophobics, in other words wankers. But you know, some things are personal even if not meant to be and this is where a little bit of thought is needed.

I have just found out that another event that I’d like to go to is not accessible. My intention is not to have a dig at these people, simply because firstly I understand their reasons and secondly I consider them as friends. However I don’t think people/friends (even some members of my own family) really understand how hurtful it can be. I admit that at times I do find it hard to deal with when known friends organise things with out any consideration for my needs. I know this is not always possible and I accept that, after all it’s not your fault that I can’t walk or buildings have bad access, but it is not mine either. I know it’s rare that I may go to a place that is ideal, especially a friends house (well my mate’s apartment is rather cool, love you Carl aka snowblind) hence loosing any dignity I have by pissing in a bottle then having my wife empty it. Yes I have often had to pee in a bottle, (well that’s what I do every day) but sometimes I have to in someone’s garden, living room, kitchen, etc because I can’t get to the loo! But you know, I can live with that, not sure friends feel the same mind!

I can’t help wondering how many people would drink in a pub, or eat at a restaurant, or hire a venue if it had restrictions on personal issues, no blacks, no fatties, no gingers, no gays, no short people, no tall people, no miss shaped noses. OK OK silly I know, or is it?

Like I said I really believe that people don’t understand how upsetting it can be to be excluded because your body is f*cked! However I also believe that people are unaware how much difference a little bit of thought can make:-/

Example One: Party Invite, I can’t access part of the party as he lives up three flights of stairs, he acknowledges this and apologized for it, but then he hopes that I will join them later at a pub that is accessible. This is no fault of his own, but his consideration means a lot. Moxypark 😉

Example Two: I was talking to a friend on twitter, he was eating at a restaurant that I’ve been meaning to go to and without me even asking him,  he took it upon himself to see if I could get in. Beautifully amazing, pigsonthewing;-)

There are plenty more people I could mention as I am lucky to know some great people:-)

So yes, if I can’t access a building, venue etc then it is personal. I don’t choose this situation, but I have to live with it.

I’m not asking you to restrict your life, your choices, your ways, just consider me.

  • This is probably laziness on my part, but do you have or could you start a list of places that ARE accessible. Also maybe list your top venues in Brum…?

  • PS Just spotted the Barred list under reviews. Er, is that the lot?

    • The ones in Barred list under reviews are ones that I had contact with at the time. This website http://www.viewbirmingham.co.uk/ is good for a list:-) I have thought about starting my own list however the time is not right at the moment:-/ Perhaps I should vet people for there suitability to be friends with none normals!

  • Hey Marty,

Certainly with the Bristow events, I know that the guys do consider accessibility, but there don’t seem to be *any* free, accessible venues in the city, so they had to give up in the end. Do let them know if you hear of any.

    xx

  • I don’t know of any free venues no, however, I have not been looking. In future I would always be willing to *try* and find a venue for Dirty Bristow:-) off the top of my head all I can think of is the local old peoples home, handy as it is fully accessible, has comfy chairs, clean easy flooring and if you get to drunk they even have trained arse wipers! xx
