Sainsbury’s Christmas Ad 2014

I’ve just watched the new Sainbury’s Christmas ad, you know the one which romanticises a moment in a war that resulted in over 37 million casualties.

Christmas is for sharing, even people who’ve been trying to kill each other exchange gifts at Christmas so what are you waiting for, get to Sainbury’s and spend your money.

Maybe I’m wrong but commercialism such as this by the the big corporations makes me rather sick. The ad should have pointed out that this was a single beautiful moment in a horrific 4 years of a devastating conflict that claimed 17 million lives.

Does it really matter? of course it fucking does, unless you like being lied to and manipulated so you spend your money making them richer. I’m surprised Nike didn’t have their logo on the ball or Boss didn’t put their name on the uniforms.

Where is the line? What about an ad of someone tucking into a McDonalds after saving people from the attack on the Twin Towers? Is that acceptable? There were many beautiful moments of humanity recorded from auschwitz, would it be accepted if Star Bucks used it to promote themselves?

Marketing wise it’s very clever, if you fall for all that bollocks and the problem is many people do.
